Association Danses Nivillacoises FR

About us

A village association, three kinds of dance, and lots of people giving their time so that everyone can enjoy dancing.

Our story

Founded in 2000, the Association Danses Nivillacoises teaches three quite different disciplines: modern jazz, Breton dance and ballroom practice. All classes take place at the Forum in Nivillac, on a wooden floor.

ADN is a non-profit association under the French law of 1901, affiliated with the Fédération Française de Danse. It is run by about ten volunteers and employs a state-qualified teacher for the jazz section.

We dance for pleasure, in a friendly, non-competitive spirit. Around 350 members are spread across the three sections.

Mélanie Boutet

Mélanie Boutet

Mélanie grew up in the Morbihan and knew the association before teaching here, so joining felt like coming home. She has held the French state diploma in dance teaching, jazz option, since June 2020.

She trained from 2015 at the Choréia school in Paris (jazz, contemporary, Graham and Horton techniques, classical), then took her teacher training at the Pôle Supérieur in Nantes. She has taken part in international competitions and danced with the WE ART company.

« Il n'existe pas une danse, mais des danses. »

There isn’t one dance, there are many.

Ballroom practice is led by Laurie, Nicolas and André, all three volunteer members.

How we teach

Immersing a child in dance gives them something to dream about, think about and grow with. Children learn through play and action, which is why no classical, jazz or contemporary technique is taught before age 8.

The five stages of the jazz path

  1. Discovery (éveil) Ages 4–5, two years

    A warm-up and playful workshops around the basics of movement: discovering the body, linking music and dance, finding one's way in space, dancing with others.

  2. Introduction (initiation) Ages 6–7, two years

    A bridge to the fundamentals, still through play and creativity: space, musicality, first steps towards poise, self-discipline and confidence.

  3. Modern jazz, beginner from age 8, teens and adults

    First technical cycle: a barre warm-up (pliés, dégagés, stretches, diagonals), then a choreography that builds through the year.

  4. Modern jazz, intermediate second cycle

    Technique is refined, with improvisation and choreographic composition so dancers make the movement their own.

  5. Modern jazz, advanced third cycle

    The most demanding cycle, which also prepares students for the most ambitious pieces in the show.

Each season ends with a show: students experience the stage and families see how far they've come.

Volunteer with us

ADN exists thanks to its volunteers, and without parent volunteers the shows couldn't happen. Volunteering means:

  • 4 or 5 friendly meetings a year to decide together how the association runs;
  • a festive evening around the fest-noz;
  • a first look at the choreographies at dress rehearsals;
  • four big nights of celebration during the jazz shows.
